To me, my photographs are art. I make that statement based on how serious I am about my work, work that encompasses the way I see, my perspective on what I am seeing and fine technique. I don't expect everyone to love all of my photographs, I don't, or even understand some of them. While recognition is always appreciated, in the end, it is the way I feel about my work that counts. More than once I've taken the photograph that I think could define me as an artist. You might look at it and say "What, why?"
This week I got the news that another of my photographs was published on the 1x.com, an internationally curated fine art photography platform where professional curators accept fewer than 1% of submissions. They have three levels of recognition; Accepted, Published and Awarded. I've had a dozen accepted, nine published and as of yesterday, one awarded. The distinction of Awarded is front page placement in the 1x Magazine. The curators are both other photographers in the community as well as a panel of expert curators. My photograph "Drift" was the photograph that earned this distinction. If I said I wasn't thrilled with the news, I'd by lying.
